Michael Crawford

LODGE HOST / FLY TYER

I’m a native Floridian, born and raised in Jacksonville. From a young age I have always loved the outdoors and being in nature. Growing up, baseball filled a majority of my time between practices and games, seven days a week. Thankfully after college I was able to devote more time into hunting and fishing.

Even though it’s usually the other way around, my younger brother was the guy that really got me back into the deer and Turkey woods. After our first Turkey hunt together, resulting in him bagging a gobbler I was hooked. Crisp early mornings in the dead quiet to suddenly be interrupted by a gobble is enough to give you goose bumps. The chess match to trick a bird to do something against what they’re naturally hard wired to do, there’s nothing like it.

My earliest memories of fishing come from cane poling for bream or catfish with my dad and great grandpa. My interest in fly fishing came from the idea of being able to tie your own flies. There is just something about taking hair and feathers and tricking a wild animal into biting something that you created. Here at Historic Coast Outfitters I offer custom flies, perfect for your trip with us. Private fly tying lessons are available, to provide a greater connection and enhance your overall experience.
